How Tracking My Cycle Helped Me Reclaim My Intuition

This is a gentle story about coming home to my own rhythm, feminine flow, and natural wisdom, after years of being told to ignore it.

If you're anything like me, your relationship with your cycle may have started off distant, confusing, or even frustrating. Growing up, I wasn’t taught what a healthy cycle actually looked like. I didn’t even know that having an irregular cycle could be a sign of imbalance, and every time I brought it up to a doctor, I was told it was "normal." That mood swings, exhaustion, bloating, and heavy cramps were just “part of being a woman.”

So I believed them.

I thought unpredictability was just my baseline. That keeping a smile on my face, pushing through brain fog, overriding exhaustion, and staying in survival mode was just what it meant to be strong and functioning. But I wasn’t functioning, I was extremely disconnected. I had no space or language for what my body was trying to say.

The Wake-Up Call: “This Isn’t Normal”

Looking back, I can see clearly now: all those symptoms were messages. They weren’t things to suppress, they were gentle (and when ignored… not-so-gentle) nudges from my body asking for support.

Instead of being guided toward healing the root, I was offered band-aids like birth control, medications that didn’t suit me, and quick-fix advice that missed the full picture. This protocol missed the bigger picture. It didn’t consider my lifestyle, nervous system, nutrition, sleep, or emotional stress… and it certainly didn’t look at the hidden layers, like a hormone imbalance disrupting everything beneath the surface.

And while I’m endlessly grateful for the role that Western medicine had in helping me treat that, I also know that without a more holistic, intuitive approach, one that asked me to turn inward and listen to my body, I would have never gotten the full picture.

What Changed for Me

After nearly a decade of trial and error, doctor visits, hormone panels, MRIs, and so much unlearning and relearning… I can finally say I feel balanced. I feel in sync. I feel normal. Not because I found a magic solution, but because I learned how to honor my body’s rhythm, by tracking my cycle, supporting my hormones naturally, and most importantly just paying attention to how I feel.

Cycle tracking didn’t just help me anticipate my period, it taught me how to care for myself when I was at my most vulnerable and didn’t have all the tools or knowledge of knowing what was causing my imbalance. It helped me connect to the intuitive signals I used to override and now, life feels softer, steadier, and so much more aligned.

It’s Not Just About Fertility, It’s About Freedom

There’s a misconception that cycle tracking is just for people trying to get pregnant. But really? It’s about understanding yourself.

Cycle tracking gave me tools to:

  • Understand my energy, mental, and emotional patterns

  • Plan my life in flow with my natural phases

  • Notice when something feels “off”

  • Build trust with my body again

  • Reclaim a more feminine approach to wellness in a world built for 24/7 masculine output

When I realized how different I felt throughout the month, it honestly blew my mind. Of course I didn’t feel the same every day, of course I needed different wellness tools for each part of my cycle. It made so much sense. Our bodies, like nature, move through seasons and those shifts are not only normal… they should be sacred.

How I Got Started (and What I Use Now)

At first, I kept it simple. I used my notes app to track how I was feeling - emotionally, physically, and energetically. I also tracked my symptoms. Was I craving rest? Was I feeling social or sensitive? Did my sleep feel deeper? Was my digestion off? You get the picture…

That daily practice turned into a valuable data set for my own holistic teacher. And now I’ve evolved this practice into using a few supportive bio-hacking tools to keep track more seamlessly:

My Go-To Tracking Tools:

  1. Oura Ring – My favorite wellness tool. It tracks my temperature, HRV, and sleep patterns, and helps me see how stress and rest affect my body in real time. There are also so many new and alternative smart rings on the market to try out!

  2. Natural Cycles – Syncs with Oura to give me insight into hormone shifts, ovulation, and phase prediction. I don’t even have to manually log anything anymore which is SO nice.

  3. Flo – This apps is great for beginners. It helps track your cycle, symptoms, energy, and mood in a visual, intuitive way. They also have fun tips and insights to follow.

One thing to note is that these tools don’t replace my intuition. They do support it though, being in tune with my body naturally is still important but they help me track my body’s natural intelligence.

Reclaiming My Intuition

One of the most unexpected and beautiful shifts from this journey?

My intuition got so much stronger.

Not overnight. Not in some magical way. But gradually, through the simple, consistent practice of paying attention to my body. I used to second-guess myself all the time— Should I rest or am I being lazy? Am I being too sensitive or is this actually a no? Do I really want to say yes to this, or am I just used to people-pleasing?

Tracking my cycle helped quiet the noise. Because when you begin to see your emotional and energetic patterns, something clicks.

I started noticing that the days I felt indecisive or reactive usually lined up with my luteal phase. That my clearest ideas often came just after my period, when everything felt new and expansive. That my “gut feelings” weren’t random, they were often connected to my body’s internal cues.

✨ I started trusting when my body said no, even if my mind was still unsure
✨ I knew when I needed rest without guilt, because I could see the pattern with tracking support
✨ I gave myself space to make decisions after ovulation, when I felt most grounded

And the coolest part? That inner knowing started showing up everywhere… not just in wellness, but in work, relationships, and daily choices. I started hearing myself more clearly.

Intuition isn’t just some mystical power, it’s a muscle. And for me, cycle tracking was the weight training that helped strengthen it.
